Truespeed and Freedom Fibre complete merger to create expanded full-fibre group

Full-fibre broadband providers Truespeed and Freedom Fibre have completed their merger, creating a new combined business with a significantly expanded regional footprint across the UK.

The newly formed Freedom Truespeed Group brings together two complementary fibre networks and will serve more than 412,000 premises ready for service, alongside around 70,000 customers.

The group will operate across several regions, including the South West, North West, West Midlands and East of England.

The merger, which has now completed following regulatory approval, combines Freedom Fibre’s wholesale, open-access network with Truespeed’s retail and network capability.

The companies said the deal would create a larger, more resilient full-fibre platform with the scale and financial strength to compete in an increasingly competitive broadband market.

For customers and partners, there will be no immediate change to services. Freedom Fibre will continue to operate as the group’s wholesale network, while Truespeed and LilaConnect will remain customer-facing brands across the combined footprint.

The business said the combined network benefits from strong regional density and limited overlap, allowing for greater operational efficiency and more effective use of capital.

It also said the new group is virtually unlevered, giving it a stronger financial base to support future investment and long-term growth.

Nathan Vautier, CEO of Freedom Truespeed Group, said the completion marked an important moment for both businesses.

The completion of this merger is an important milestone for both businesses. By bringing together Truespeed and Freedom Fibre, we have created a stronger platform with the scale, capabilities and financial strength to compete effectively in the UK market. We remain focused on delivering high-quality connectivity for our customers and supporting our partners as we move into this next phase.

In the short term, the group said its focus would be on maintaining service continuity and customer service while integrating systems, processes and teams in a phased way.

The deal comes as the UK full-fibre market continues to consolidate, with operators looking to build scale, improve efficiency and strengthen their position in both wholesale and consumer markets.
