Law firm enters administration
A regional law firm with offices across the West of England, including one on Orchard Street in Bristol, entered administration at midday today (30th of April 2026).
BLB Solicitors, which operated six offices across Wiltshire and Gloucestershire, has published a notice on its website confirming that the business will cease trading from midday. Clients have been asked to direct any enquiries to a generic email address.
The firm employed 89 people as of March last year and provided a range of legal services for both individuals and businesses, including commercial and property work. Staff are understood to have been told yesterday that the firm would be closing.
The news appears to have come as a shock to many, with few obvious public signs that the business was preparing to shut down or facing serious financial difficulty. Only last month, BLB announced the appointment of three senior solicitors across its commercial and property teams.
According to the firm’s accounts for the year to March 2025, BLB Solicitors had net assets of £836,000, including cash reserves of £210,000.
The closure is also likely to cause concern for clients with ongoing matters. A letter sent by the firm to clients on Tuesday advised them to instruct another firm of solicitors to continue acting on their behalf.
An SRA spokesperson said the firm had been keeping the regulator updated on its administration process to ensure client money and files were being handled in line with guidance on firm closures.
The spokesperson added that, so far, this appeared to be the case, and that the SRA would only intervene if client interests were considered to be at risk. The regulator said it would continue to monitor the situation.
