Residents are being asked to help shape a bold new ten-year plan for culture in Bristol.

Launching today (22 April 2026), a series of public surveys aim to help Bristol City Council understand what cultural activities the city’s residents take part in, how important culture is to their wellbeing and if they believe the city’s culture is key to making it a good place to live.

The responses will directly inform the city’s next decade of cultural priorities, investment and activity.

Councillor Tony Dyer, Leader of Bristol City Council, said:

Culture in Bristol is as varied as the people who live here. It can mean food, visual art, sport, music, dance and so much more. As we shape this new strategy, we want to make sure we are focusing on the parts of Bristol’s cultural life that matter most to residents, and make sure we invest in projects and ideas that will improve people’s quality of life.
I encourage everyone, whether or not they think they take part in culture, to complete a survey and share their views. We can’t create a plan for the future of Bristol’s culture without hearing from the people who bring it to life.

To ensure everyone’s voice is represented, three tailored surveys have been created for different groups:

  • Adults aged 25 and over
  • Young people aged 24 and under
  • Professionals working in the culture sector

The creation of the new Bristol Culture Strategy will be led, managed and developed by Bristol City Council’s Culture and Creative Industries arts development team, and is supported by the One City Culture Board and the Culture working group.

The public surveys are available online at Arts and culture policy.

The deadline for responses is 10 July 2026.
